Calculation of Underground Cables Frequency- Dependent Parameters Using Full-Wave Modal Analysis

چکیده
In this paper a new method has been proposed for calculating the frequency-dependent parameters of underground cables. The method uses full-wave formulation for calculating the modal electromagnetic fields and corresponding voltages and currents and then extracting frequency-dependent per-unitlength parameters of underground cables. The proposed method can be used for any cross-sectional shape of cables. Single coaxial cables and sector shaped cables are studied in this paper and the calculated per-unit-length parameters are compared with those obtained from PSCAD/EMTDC and other methods available in the literature.

A Full Frequency-Dependent Cable Model for the Calculation of Fast Transients
The calculation of frequency-dependent cable parameters is essential for simulations of transient phenomena in electrical power systems. The simulation of transients is more complicated than the calculation of currents and voltages in the nominal frequency range. The model has to represent the frequency dependency and the wave propagation behavior of cable lines. The introduced model combines a...
متن کاملRational Approximation to Full-Wave Modeling of Underground Cables
The full-wave model of underground cables is presented. The solutions of this model in frequency domain, applied in underground insulated, cable is evaluated. To allow the inclusion of this formulation in EMT programs a rational vector fitting of the propagation constant, characteristic admittance Yc and the propagation function H in frequency domain is presented. The simulations in time domain...
متن کاملDynamic Analysis of Moving Cables with Variable Tension and Variable Speed
Dynamic Analysis of an axially moving cable with time dependent tension and velocity isstudied in this paper. Tension force and the moving speed are assumed to be harmonic. It is found that there exists a specific value of speed in which natural frequency of the system approacheszero. This specific speed for such a critical condition is called critical speed and it will be proved thatincreasing ...
متن کاملOutput-only Modal Analysis of a Beam Via Frequency Domain Decomposition Method Using Noisy Data
The output data from a structure is the building block for output-only modal analysis. The structure response in the output data, however, is usually contaminated with noise. Naturally, the success of output-only methods in determining the modal parameters of a structure depends on noise level. In this paper, the possibility and accuracy of identifying the modal parameters of a simply supported...

This paper investigates the lightning impulse duty for 400 kV underground power cables using EMTP/ATP and re-assesses the recommended design level based on probabilistic analysis. The work is a part of a larger investigation that will study by computer simulation, the full range of transient overvoltages due to lightning, switching, faults and other temporary overvoltages (TOV) on cables within...
